We all have a different fashion sense and style. This is your absolute right and unique to your own personal expression. That being said, it is very important to dress appropriately for Court. Like it or not, the Judge may draw conclusions based on your appearance. As a result, you should dress to impress.

For Men

Men should wear:

• Dress pants or khakis
• Button down or colored shirt
• Dress or casual shoes

 

Men should avoid:

• Jeans
• Shorts
• Sleeveless shirts
• Sandals or flip-flops
• Sneakers
• Hats
• Facial piercings

 

For Women 

Women should wear:

• Slacks or skirt
• Dress
• Blouse
• Heels or flats

 

Women should avoid:

• Jeans
• Shorts
• Sandals or flip-flops
• Sneakers
• Bathing suit cover-ups
• Facial piercings

 

Dressing nicely does not mean that you will win your case.  However, it will show the Judge that you have respect for the system and understand the decorum that is expected in our Courts of law. This can only help.
